Main reason JWs are JWs

what is the(or what was your) main motivation for serving god as a jw(or any christian)?.

a) love for god and genuinely trying to learn more about him and bible truths?.

b) to escape punishment/death at armegddon?.

Me? I liked justice.... I did not like the 'evil' that men did to each other, I saw no way of escaping it, I wanted things to be 'set straight,' and only God could do that.

My mom 'studied' when I was 4, and she didn't want her children to 'grow old.'

I love people, and the idea that there was no 'prejudice' among JW's, that I could go anywhere in the world and be invited in by a JW seemed to fit the "you will know you are my disciples by the love among themselves." Anything that didn't 'fit', that I observed, God could work out in 'the new order.'

I also liked the idea that people who died in the past, people who were poor, had no help, were victims of war, orphans, etc. could be resurrected to have a better life.

Exactly Splash! "Brazen or corrupting" are the key words... They can be used to accomplish anything, any 'removing,' any 'marking,' any 'df-ing,' any anything....

I know someone who pointed out the unethical actions of a few elders, the GB, the legal dept, and was accused and df'd for "speaking abusively of the glorious ones." Hasta la vista baby!

Anyone recall a time when your congregation came to the aid of a Brother or sister in need??

i'm not talking about a individual, but a congregation as a whole.. i'm talking about a brother or sister that really hit hard times.. have there ever been an occasion where the brothers (elders).

decided to dip into the kh funds and help one in need????.

example, brother loose his job, get evicted, family of four or.

So sorry, VillageGirl.... In our area, it also was the "older sisters" that organized any help, and any money that was given to people was done by individuals.

What is the key to free yourself from the Organization?

they key to free yourself from the organization is having mental clarity of what is happening in relation to the watchtower, inside and out.

their basic concept is that they are god's sole organization on earth.

there really is no basis for anyone to make that statement.

Has Anyone Heard Whether The New JW Bible Is Liked As Much As The Old One?

my mom told me that she, my brother and his wife really didn't like this new bible.. when i asked her why, she said they dropped the headings on the top of the pages and that just wasn't as good.. have you heard any pros and cons about the new good book?.

My sister, an artist... and never baptized, but raised a witness, now a non-believer, says it is 'depressing.'

When I asked why, she said that the color is depressing, and the feel of the skin of the bible reminds her of human skin, and of when the Nazi's use to use human skin for lamp shades, etc.......

I have enjoyed this story also, Julia! (& just now found it! YAY!)

What is so interesting to me, is to see that all of us can relate to it... It is the same old story, over and over again... now exposed. You are in Austrailia? Lois is on the West Coast, Kate is in England? We all relate, we have all had it happen, seen it, all over the world, it is not an 'isolated' view, as so many would like to say.

Every sentence is like living thru it again.... When I personally asked, "Why did Jehovah "lead the slave" to say "Sodom and Gomorrah won't be resurrected," then "They will be", then "They won't"..... and made the comment, "Is that the light getting brighter, or the light going off and on, off and on?"

Let alone the 607 WT, when my husband and I figured out that all the Society's calculations were inventions and delusions of men, what was asked of me?!!??? the same thing asked in your novel: "What have you been reading?!?" me: "The WT & AW" that's it, WT & AW, and that , 'my dear friends' (haha) is enough to prove them wrong........

Love your story! It has epitomized the reality of life inside the borg. Very interesting. I love to write, and w/also like to write a story. Just try to explain what it is like to an 'outsider,' it is hard to sum it all up in such a short space, good job!!

I will be patiently looking forward to the next chapter.

What would this world be like today , if their was never , ever , any concept of a GOD or a Creator .?

given the fact that religion has been such a divisive force throughout history amongst all nations and tribes of the earth , i wonder how things might have been different had their been no god / creator / religion in the mix.. of course religion alone has not been the cause of all mankinds troubles & conflicts with each other , nationalism , polotics , racism , to name a few are also guilty of these problems.. but it seems to me that religion , beleif in a creator / god and its consequences of such a beleif are the cheif causes of mankinds troubles.. remember this is your thoughts if a creator , god , religion didnt exist in human conscience .. what are your thoughts ?.

I was wondering the same thing myself, just the other day....

'Religion,' has been used as a means to control people.... to 'make one person more special than another.' Want to have a reason to get rid of your 'enemies'? etc....

I believe, that if all people were just curious, and like children, good hearted, wanting to learn, the world would have been a lot more gregarious, scientifically advanced.....

If there were no 'god', perhaps there would be other things.... like 'bosses,' 'kings,' 'heads of tribes,' 'generals of armies,' 'CEO's,' 'klans of families,' that would still demand loyalty, obedience. Perhaps men make themselves like gods, perhaps it would be the same?

So sorry for all of your turmoil... Wish I c/give you a hug... That kind of arguing can just tire you out.

I was reading what DOC said, about JW's who are inactive, leave, mess around and then feel guilty, come back and try to make atonement by becoming an active, repentant, meeting attending, service going, good appearing JW.

That really is not fair to the person who married them. Did he tell you that one day he might return, would expect you to study, become a JW, then treat you ill if you did not?

What would happen if you 'took a break', and went to live with relatives for a while, letting your head and body heal?.... give yourself a chance to think and breathe?

to test the processes that could have helped spark life on earth, students in the earth sciences department who had been working on reconstructing the chemistry of the archean ocean, which covered the planet almost 4 billion years ago helped develop some experiments.

I love the variety in life, the beauty, the harmony.....

I see design.... period. Absolute detail, awesome! unimaginable variety! breathtaking!

Accidents? hmmm.... usually end up in a mess.... clean it up.

Let's "draw" DNA, mitochondria, a living cell, the universe..... takes a bit of effort, and knowledge.

Personally, I see all the details, the beauty, the harmony as a sign of an inventor.

Who designed it? Don't know. Are they alive now? I don't have the answers.

How I live my life, the decisions I make, will not be based on whether there is or is not a God... or 'inventor'.

I will still love people, enjoy animals, try to live a creative life, and respect our home, planet earth.
